Welcome to Year 3
Welcome to Mr Chesworth's class! This page is designed to give you an overview of class routines. If you need anything specific, please do not hesitate to message me via the Class Dojo.
Class Routines
READING This term, I aim for the children to increase the length of texts that they can read and also the frequency of their reading. As part of their homework, the children will need to read 3 times per week with yourselves. In addition, they will need to complete either 30 minutes of Lexia or 30 minutes of Reading Plus. Please continue to sign their diary to show they have completed this and maybe tell me some books you have enjoyed together (and send it every Friday).
BOOK CHANGE will take place whenever your child finishes their book. As they are getting older, it is their responsibility to change their book. Just ask them to come and see either myself or Mrs Birchall first thing in the morning and we will sign their books in and out. I will be giving them a book suitable for their level and also allowing them to take a book from our library. They may need help to enjoy this book so do not expect them to read it independently.
PE is still on a Tuesday and Thursday. Children must come to school in their PE kit on those days. They are able to wear it for the full day. If it is cold and or wet, please dress them sensibly for the conditions. Please be aware that hoodies and not permitted as PE kit.
TIMES TABLES and MATHS HOMEWORK. Some children do not know their times tables by heart yet. By the end of Year 3, your child is expected to have learnt 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables. School have subscribed to TT Rockstars App to help but simple counting games can be just as effective. Maths homework is now set via Magma Maths. All children have a login and the program can be accessed via any web browser or via the App. Maths homework will be set on a Friday and handed in on a Friday.
SPELLINGS will be handed out on a Friday and tested on a Friday. The children have access to the Spelling Shed website to help them practise (by playing games) but good, old-fashioned methods are just as effectives (hangman, look-cover-say-write-check etc).
DOJO I am available to be contacted on DOJO from 8am till 5pm, Monday - Friday. This is also a platform where I will share important information, reminders and most importantly, pictures of the children having fun in school. Please check is regularly to keep up to date in the classroom.
