Year 3

Welcome to our Year 3 page which includes all the details to help you and your child know a little about their year group.

Below is a short welcome and introduction to the team and you can follow the tabs below to find out about the curriculum, key information and more.

Mr Chesworth is their class teacher this year and he will be supported by Mrs Birchall and Ms McGrail.  Mrs McCord will also be teaching the split Maths and English classes.

P.E

P.E days this half term are Tuesday (Indoor) and Thursday (Outdoor). Please remember to name all of your child's belongings, including all of their uniform, indoor and outdoor P.E kit and shoes.

P.E KITS

Outdoor P.E
Children should wear their outdoor kit; trainers (come to school wearing trainers - school shoes are not required on these days) P.E t-shirt, navy blue jogging pants and a navy blue sweatshirt / school fleece (not a hoodie or a zipped jacket as these are dangerous for P.E).

Indoor P.E
Children should wear shorts, a P.E t-shirt and come into school wearing their trainers.  During the Autumn and Spring Term the children should wear jogging pants and jumper / school fleece over this kit so they do not get cold during the school day.

On our class page you will be able to see what topics we are covering during the year. You will be able to access the class timetable and other useful information. Keep checking the Class Dojo page too for other information.

Snack

Please can you send your child in with a labelled water bottle (filled) everyday. Water bottles will be sent home every night to be washed.

If you wish your child to bring an additional snack then this must be a healthy option- we do not allow crisps or chocolate at snack time.

Please ensure that you order your child's school dinner each day via parent pay.

Additional Notes

Please ensure your child has a waterproof coat in school or brought in daily as our weather is very unpredictable and the children will be accessing fresh air in all weathers.

If you have any concerns or questions about your child's education then please contact Mr Chesworth.

CLASS ROUTINES

READING
This term, I aim for the children to increase the length of texts that they can read and also the frequency of their reading. As part of their homework, the children will need to read 3 times per week with yourselves. In addition, they will need to complete either 30 minutes of Lexia or 30 minutes of Reading Plus. Please continue to sign their diary to show they have completed this and maybe tell me some books you have enjoyed together (and send it every Friday).

BOOK CHANGE
This will take place whenever your child finishes their book. As they are getting older, it is their responsibility to change their book. Just ask them to come and see either myself or Mrs Birchall first thing in the morning and we will sign their books in and out. I will be giving them a book suitable for their level and also allowing them to take a book from our library. They may need help to enjoy this book so do not expect them to read it independently.

PE is still on a Tuesday and Thursday. Children must come to school in their PE kit on those days. They are able to wear it for the full day. If it is cold and or wet, please dress them sensibly for the conditions. Please be aware that hoodies and not permitted as PE kit.

TIMES TABLES and MATHS HOMEWORK
Some children do not know their times tables by heart yet. By the end of Year 3, your child is expected to have learnt 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables. School have subscribed to TT Rockstars App to help but simple counting games can be just as effective. Maths homework is now set via Magma Maths. All children have a login and the program can be accessed via any web browser or via the App. Maths homework will be set on a Friday and handed in on a Friday.

SPELLINGS
Will be handed out on a Friday and tested on a Friday. The children have access to the Spelling Shed website to help them practise (by playing games) but good, old-fashioned methods are just as effectives (hangman, look-cover-say-write-check etc).

DOJO
I am available to be contacted on DOJO from 8am till 5pm, Monday - Friday. This is also a platform where I will share important information, reminders and most importantly, pictures of the children having fun in school. Please check is regularly to keep up to date in the classroom.
