Year 4

Welcome to our Year 4 page which includes all the details to help you and your child know a little about their year group.

Below is a short welcome and introduction to the team and you can follow the tabs below to find out about the curriculum, key information and more.

Miss Challis is their class teacher this year and she will be supported by Mrs Atkinson.  Mrs McCord will also be teaching the split Maths and English classes.

P.E

P.E days this half term are Monday (Outdoor) and Friday (Swimming). Please remember to name all of your child's belongings, including all of their uniform, indoor and outdoor P.E kit and shoes.

P.E KITS

Outdoor P.E
Children should wear their outdoor kit; trainers (come to school wearing trainers - school shoes are not required on these days) P.E t-shirt, navy blue jogging pants and a navy blue sweatshirt / school fleece (not a hoodie or a zipped jacket as these are dangerous for P.E).

Indoor P.E
Children should wear shorts, a P.E t-shirt and come into school wearing their trainers.  During the Autumn and Spring Term the children should wear jogging pants and jumper / school fleece over this kit so they do not get cold during the school day.

On our class page you will be able to see what topics we are covering during the year. You will be able to access the class timetable and other useful information. Keep checking the Class Dojo page too for other information.

Snack

Please can you send your child in with a labelled water bottle (filled) everyday. Water bottles will be sent home every night to be washed.

If you wish your child to bring an additional snack then this must be a healthy option- we do not allow crisps or chocolate at snack time.

Please ensure that you order your child's school dinner each day via parent pay.

Additional Notes

Please ensure your child has a waterproof coat in school or brought in daily as our weather is very unpredictable and the children will be accessing fresh air in all weathers.

If you have any concerns or questions about your child's education then please contact Miss Challis.

Homework:

Homework is set on a Friday and must be completed by the following Friday. Homework for Year 4 consists of 3 Mathletics tasks (which should roughly take 30 minutes) and 30 minutes of Reading Plus each week, this should be the same as about two stories.

If you are unable to access the online homework please let me know as soon as possible.

The children must also read with an adult 2 times each week. Please record the reads within their reading diaries as these will be checked every Friday morning.
Please ensure reading diaries are in every day as they will be checked during Guided Reading. The children can change their books at any time during the week.

Every half-term, there will be a project based task to complete for homework in line with topics we learn within school to consolidate their learning.

TTRock stars isn't mandatory homework but it is advised. Times tables are practised every day both on TTRockstar and a free testing simulator to get them ready for their MTC in June. There is lots of emphasis on times tables in Year 4 as there is a mandatory times tables test at the end of the school year.

MTC

The multiplication tables check (MTC) is statutory for primary schools in the 2023/24 academic year. The children will have to complete a test online consisting of 25 questions. They will have 6 seconds to answer the questions and will be tested on their 1-12 times tables however, it will consist mainly of 6-12's. To help your children prepare for this, TTRockstars is a great programme for them to practice their recall.

Dojo

Please make sure you are able to access class dojo as this is the best way to keep up to date with class activities.  I am available on class dojo from 8am-6pm Monday-Friday to message. I post regularly on the class story to keep you up to date with events and activities in our classroom.
